Assessing is the process of determining the value of real estate properties for the purpose of local property taxation. This value, known as the assessed value, is used to calculate your annual property tax bill. The assessment process ensures that property taxes are distributed fairly among property owners based on the market value of their property. These taxes fund essential local services like schools, roads, emergency services, and municipal operations. As a homeowner, you can expect your property to be assessed at least once every five years (or more often, depending on the town). Assessors may use recent sales data, property inspections, and public records to determine your property's value. If you believe your assessment is inaccurate, you have the right to request a review or file an abatement application. The Town of New Hampton uses Commerford, Nieder, & Perkins (CNP) as our assessing firm. Our most recent revaluation was in 2023, and the next one will be completed in 2028
